If the first draft by the Mrštík brothers had been accepted, Maryša might have been totally different. It was originally called Lízal and focused more on Maryša's father. For the welcome change, we can partially thank Ladislav Stroupežnický, author of Naši furianti who was the dramaturge of the National Theater at the time and rejected the play several times with notes for improvement, though he allegedly did so partially because of personal conflicts with Vilém Mrštík.
